First State Bank of Golva, Beach, Medora celebrates 100 years of community service.
“If it’s not good for our customers, it’s not good for the Bank” is the philosophy that has guided the First State Bank since 1914.
The family banking philosophy began with Orin Baertsch in 1917, the father of Don Baertsch, who started his banking career in 1947 as an FDIC examiner. Don started his community banking career at the Farmers and Merchants Bank in Beach, with Tom Hudson as president in 1963.
Dee Ann Baertsch began her banking career in 1989 buying the First State Bank in Golva with her father Don who became her partner and mentor, training Dee Ann according to his experience, philosophy and dedication to community banking. “If it is not good for ourcustomers its not good for the Bank”. In 1996 the bank expanded to Beach and in 2001, Sandy Baertsch became the manager of the new Medora station.
